Terms of Service

Plain terms for a plain promise: a free history site, open to all, with a few fair rules.

01The service

Stone by Stone is a free, independent, non-commercial website presenting the history, land, language and culture of Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. By using the site you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site.

02Free to read

All content is offered for personal reading, learning and research at no cost. No account, subscription or payment is required, and none ever will be requested by this site.

03Intellectual property

The written chapters, design and original imagery on this site are the work of this project. You may quote brief passages with attribution and a link. You may not republish whole chapters, pass the content off as your own, or use the site's imagery or branding commercially without permission.

04Historical accuracy

Chapters are written from the documented historical record, with dates and names checked, and disagreements among historians are flagged where they exist. History is an evolving discipline, however, and the content is provided for general education rather than as academic or professional advice.

05Acceptable use

You agree not to attack, probe, scrape at disruptive volume, or attempt to interfere with the site or its security systems. Automated access that degrades the service for others may be blocked.

06Third-party links

The site links to external resources, including an independent trust centre. We are not responsible for the content or practices of external sites.

07No warranties

The site is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we accept no liability for any loss arising from use of, or inability to use, the site.

08Changes

These terms may be updated from time to time; the current version is always on this page. Last reviewed September 2026.
