Privacy Policy

The short version: this site collects no personal data, sets no tracking cookies, and asks for nothing from you. The longer version, in full, is below.

01Who we are

Stone by Stone is an independent, non-commercial editorial project about the history, land, language and culture of Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. It is not a business and sells nothing. This policy explains, in plain language, what happens to your information when you visit.

02What we do not collect

The site has no accounts, no login, no comment boxes, no newsletters and no payment forms. We do not set advertising cookies, analytics cookies or any third-party tracking. We do not fingerprint your device, follow you across other websites, or build any profile of you.

03What is processed automatically

Like every website, our hosting platform briefly processes standard technical data needed to deliver the pages to you — your IP address, browser type and the pages requested. This is used solely to serve the site, keep it secure and diagnose faults, and is not sold or shared for marketing.

04Security monitoring

Every page carries a silent security monitor. If your browser detects a script-injection attempt or a content-security violation on this site, it sends a small, anonymous technical alarm (the type of violation and page, never your identity) to our own security endpoint. This exists only to protect the site and its readers. The endpoint is rate-limited, origin-checked and stores nothing personal.

05Cookies and local storage

The site stores one preference on your device — your light or dark theme choice — using your browser's local storage. It never leaves your device, is not visible to us, and can be cleared at any time through your browser settings. No consent banner is needed because no tracking takes place.

06Third-party content

Fonts and images are served by this site and its hosting platform. Links to external websites (such as the independent trust centre) are provided for your information; their own privacy practices apply once you leave this site.

07Your rights

Because we hold no personal data about you, there is generally nothing to access, correct or delete. This site is offered as a public reading resource only.

08Changes to this policy

If the way this site handles information ever changes, this page will be updated before the change takes effect. The policy was last reviewed in September 2026.
